Vadu Mangai, also called Appe Midi or tender mangoes, are just baby mangoes that are picked when they are still green and not fully grown. These mangoes are used to make the famous Vadu Mango pickle, a big favorite in Indian kitchens. The mangoes are plucked in tiny and raw stage which makes them perfect for pickling. After receiving the order, open the mango box gently and leave it open for 2 to 3 hours for the air to circulate inside as the mangoes have travelled a lot of distance under various temperatures. Mangoes are plucked with stems as the mango sap liquid should not spread over the mangoes which will spoil them and create a burning sensation near mouth while consuming it raw. One can cut out the stem or leave it as such and it depends on the way of preparing mango pickle.
Vadu mangai season starts from early February and ends on last week of March. The peak of the season is around early March.
Baby mangoes are a broad category, and not every baby mango variety is suitable for making Vadu Mangai. Only specific varieties like Kilimooku, Sendura, Neelum, and Gundu baby mangoes are best suited for Vadu Mango pickle because of their size, shape, firmness, and tangy taste. These varieties hold spices well and stay crunchy after pickling. So, while all Vadu Mangai are baby mangoes, not all baby mangoes can be used as Vadu Mangai.
Vadu mangai is generally spicy and tangy, that tastes great with curd rice.
The shelf life of Vadu Mangai is very short, typically 1–2 days. It’s best to start preparing the pickle immediately after the mangoes arrive to ensure they remain fresh, firm, and perfect for pickling. Waiting too long can make them soft or spoil, which affects the taste and texture of the pickle
Maavadu stands out because of the tender baby mangoes, natural fermentation, firm texture, and traditional South Indian spice blend, making it very different from typical pickles.

I had ordered Kilimookku vadu mangai, 3 kgs. Received in good condition. But the size of the mangoes were big compared to normal vadu size. But I have picked it since I can’t waste such quantity. Hope it turns out good. My feed back are: 1) Delivery time can be shorter. 2) size can be controlled.

I have rec'd., the package nicely. Mavadu was fresh and really good. But for 3 kgs the price seems to b high and rec'd , 150 nos , which means almost 8/_ per vadu. This is to be checked. For 3 kgs it should be 250 vadus minimum based on weight. Anyway good experience

We bought vadu mango . It is very fresh and good. Few mangoes were too big in size for mavadu. Otherwise we are satisfied. Please let us know when gundu vadu mango will be available.
Bought 3 kg raw vadu mangoes. Excellent. But cost is comparatively higher than the market purchase ( i am not mentioning the transportation charges). Quality is very good because this is the second year of purchase both raw as well as sweet ones. Worth buying
